New Way of Life

Do you need a new way of doing life? Do you like your old way of life before you started following Jesus, or is a new way of life in Jesus preferable?

As followers of Jesus, we are walking in a new way of life. Our old life of sin and death is over. Our new life in Jesus is a full life—filled with resurrection and promise.

The Apostle Paul captures this truth in his letter to the Romans, when he writes, “We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.” (Romans 6:6-8, ESV).

We are dead to our old sinful way of life. We are alive in Jesus. We are no longer slaves to sin and brokenness, but we are free to live the redemptive life that Jesus has given us.

This is why Paul tells the Romans, “So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:11, ESV).

May we have this new way of life as we “walk in newness of life” in Jesus (Romans 6:4, ESV).

A Collect for the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 8): “O God, your never-failing providence sets in order all things both in heaven and on earth: Put away from us all hurtful things, and give us those things that are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
