The Faith that Saves

What do you believe? Where do you place your faith? Does what you believe, or who you believe in, have the power to save you? Have you placed your faith in God who saves?

What we believe matters. Where we place our faith matters and is of eternal consequence. We must place our belief, our faith, in the truth of God and allow him to save us and give us life.

This saving faith was the faith of Abraham. This was the faith that Abraham placed in God. This is the faith in God who saves.

The author of Genesis tells us, “Abraham believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.” (Genesis 15:6, ESV).

The Apostle Paul wrote the believers in Rome, saying, “That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, as it is written, ‘I have made you the father of many nations’—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, ‘So shall your offspring be.’” (Romans 4:16-18, ESV).

Paul instructed the church in Galatia, saying, “Just as Abraham ‘believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness’? Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, ‘In you shall all the nations be blessed.’ So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.” (Galatians 3:6-9, ESV).

May we receive the salvation God is offering us through faith in him so that we may be blessed along with Abraham the father of faith.

A Collect for the Second Sunday after Pentecost: “Grant, O Lord, that the course of this world may be so peaceably ordered by your providence, that your Church may joyfully serve you in quiet confidence and godly peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
