The Steadiness Of God

When was the last time you found yourself in need of more faith and stability? When have you been lacking and in need of provision and protection from the evil in this world?

When we are low on faith, our God is faithful. In times when we are struggling to make our way, our God establishes us. When we are hard pressed on every side and bombarded by the evils of this fallen and broken world, our God guards us against all evil.

The Apostle Paul concluded his letter to the Thessalonians encouraging them with God’s faithfulness, promises, provision, and protection from evil.

Paul wrote, “The Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one… May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3 and 5, ESV).

God is faithful and will do the establishing of our lives and our faith, which we need, but cannot do for ourselves. God is faithful, when we are unable to be. God will establish us when we are unable to establish anything in our lives. God will do it. God will do this while guarding us against the enemy of our souls.

God will direct our hearts and our lives to the love of Jesus, and to the unwavering stability of the love of Jesus for our lives. God will give us the faith, the surety, and the stability we so desperately need and long for. God is faithful and unwavering and he will do it.

May we welcome our faithful God to be faithful in our lives as he establishes us and protects us from all evil. May the Lord direct our hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 3:5, ESV).

A Collect For Grace: “O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day: Defend us by your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin nor run into any danger; and that, guided by your Spirit, we may do what is righteous in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
