Walking in Grief
How do you hold grief? How to you move through life when saddled with grief?
With loss comes grief. We all encounter loss and grief in different times and to various degrees in our lives.
Grief and loss are inevitable for those of us who live and love in family and in community—in this broken, sinful, and fallen world.
Grief is natural and should be expected when we loose someone we love and care about.
Everyone grieves and processes loss in their own way and in their own time. While there is no prescribed way to grieve, we should not go at it alone and God’s word gives us sound counsel concerning our griefs and sorrows.
The Psalmist writes, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18).
Jesus comforts his followers who mourn in Matthew’s Gospel with these words, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4).
John assures us of God’s comfort and restoration in Revelation, saying, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." (Revelation 21:4).
May we grieve well, but not as those who do not have hope, knowing God is near to us, God will deliver us, God will comfort us, and God will restore us.
In Christ alone, Robbie
Walking with Grief -- A Celtic Prayer
Do not hurry as you walk with grief
It does not help the journey
Walk slowly, pausing often
Do not hurry as you walk with grief
Be not disturbed by memories
that come unbidden
Swiftly forgive and let
Unspoken words, unfinished conversations
be resolved in your memories
Be not disturbed
Be gentle with the one who walks with grief
If it is you, be gentle with yourself
Swiftly forgive, walk slowly,
Pause often,
Take time
Be gentle as you walk with grief.
